The moon phase display is not just an aesthetic masterpiece – it also reminds us that, long before time could be mechanically measured, it was the moon that showed us the passing of time. The stainless-steel version of the Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37 with a silver-plated dial comes with a dark brown alligator leather strap from the House of Santoni. The sun-pattern finish on the dial reflects light in a myriad of different ways and makes the light appear to move around in circles when the watch is tilted from side to side, lending the timepiece a unique charm. The slightly recessed inner circle as well as the 12 diamonds add a sense of structure to the dial. The timepiece is water-resistant to 3 bar and powered by the 35800-calibre mechanical automatic movement. The phase of the moon shown in the display can be adjusted using a correction button at “2 o’clock”. The central seconds hand is stopped using the crown and the sapphire glass has an antireflective coating on both sides.
